Grandpa Chris

While Grandma was here, I went with her and Mom to see Grandpa. We took a few pictures while there so I wanted to put them on here. Grandpa is doing well... he didn't say much :) but it was nice to see he's being remembered. Grandma was so cute there. You can tell she misses him a lot. My heart breaks for her. I can't imagine my life without Bryan. And Grandpa was almost as cute as Bry! (I know, hard to believe, right?) The pictures are of Grandpa's grave and the Loar boys. We put Grandpa's old flowers in the Loar's flower holder so they all have flowers now. They look beautiful. Love, Jen

The Big Birthday Party

We really missed all of you who were too far away to enjoy Carter's birthday party. He, of course, is spoiled rotten and now has enough toys to last him a lifetime. He really wasn't interested in the toys but LOVED the baseball on his baseball mitt cake we made him. Here are a few pictures from the day. Also, one of these days we will put come video on but I am STILL trying to figure it out. Bryan thinks we need another cord. I think we are both just a little slow! :) Love you all!! Happy 4th. That will be our 4 year anniversary of meeting. Man, time flies! Love, Jen
p.s. Believe it or not, Carter is only in the 25% for weight!! I know! Crazy, huh?

Sleepy Supper Episode I

After dinner we were chit-chatting and having a sweet treat. We noticed that Evelyn, who didn't take a nap today, was getting a little drowsy so we got the camera. The small talk in the background was just to keep Evelyn from noticing the camera. Don't worry about trying to hear it.

Sleepy Supper II

Not even Cinnamon Toast Crunch was enough to keep Tootsers awake! You'll notice that when we start laughing Evelyn gets a cute smile on her face and starts laughing with us. When she sits up she says "I wake up!" or something along those lines. Enjoy!

Pictures of Carter

This is Bryan. Just thought I'd post a couple of pictures of Carter. You guys won't believe how big he is getting. It felt like we just blinked, and then here he is learning how to ride a unicylce.. not to mention, you'll notice from one of these pictures that he has also really gotten tan (Lots of time at the pool). Okay, I know, my photo shop skills are weak (not that these aren't real pictures of carter, but you could imagine...). But I can't sleep and thought I'd mess around on this thing until I got tired...okay, I'm tired. Paz.

We have news

Sorry no pictures guys, I haven't quite mastered this whole blog thing yet. Anyway, well, I'd like to qualify for the battle of the sexes as well so here's what's going on in our lives. I am still working at the same salon, it's a lot of fun and it has gotten a little busier but not as busy as everyone keeps telling me it's supposed to get. So that has me a little stressed financially but, I really do enjoy working there. Jon is working with our Brother-in-law at phillips painting, he's enjoying that but he has decided that He could never be a painter for the rest of our lives. We are getting ready to move out to Rexburg at the end of the summer so that is exciting. It will be nice to be around people that are closer to our age. We really don't have a whole lot of friends out here in driggs so rexburh will hopefully be a nice change. I will still work at the salon I am at three days a week, or at least that's the plan. I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy the hour long drive when it starts snowing. Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer!! I love ya tons!!! -Nicole-

What you might and might not know.

Hey Everyone,
I just thought I would give an update on what is going on in the world of Mattalie. ( I also want to qualify for the battle of the sexes). Anyways, life is pretty good. I am working at good 'ol S&H Steel. I enjoy being able to see dad everyday he is a great boss. (Wink,Wink nudge, nudge, how about a raise dad, after that brown nosing). JK He really is a good boss. I am also packing up our apartment. We are moving to a little apartment about two blocks away from the temple. I will be seeing it for the first time this Saturday. I hope I'm not in for to big of surprise! JK I am sure it's great, and we are both excited to be closer to family. I will also be in Lindsay (Haws)Frost's ward (FYI: I grew up w/ Lindsay and we are great friends). We will move in July 1st. (any help is welcomed). Matt is working very hard this summer working for an orthodontist lab and taking some summer school classes such as o chem and o chem lab as well as taking the Kaplan course to help him prepare for the DAT. He was able to get in a short trip to Havasupi (that is what the picture is) with his dad and brothers before he had to be to school. Matt and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary by going out to dinner and the movies, then we went to the temple to do sealings. We also tried to go hiking on the trail where Matt proposed to me, but unfortunately Matt forgot his wallet and we couldn't pay the fee to get in. So we went swimming instead. (I am actually, glad it happened that way because it was a really hot morning.) Well, that pretty much covers it. I know it isn't all that exciting but, I love my life and everything seems to be falling into place. Okay now it's everyone else's turn to post a blog. If you don't then you can't participate in the contest( That includes you, Matt). I love you all.

Battle of the Sexes

Boy or Girl
Hello everyone!
With this new baby coming along, we were wondering whether y'all think it's a boy or girl so we decided to make a contest out of it. At first I was sure it was a boy, but ya know, now I'm not so sure!
Here's how to play:
1. Leave a comment on this blog with your guess and your favorite candy bar.
2. Each individual participating in the contest must post at least one blog entry (comments do not count) before July 10th. On this date, given that the baby is in good position and doesn't have his/her legs crossed, we will find out the sex. Everyone who wants a shot at winning, needs to post a blog (no "joint" blogs for couples will be accepted) before that date. If you don't blog, you don't win. Period.
If you guess right and post at least one blog, we'll send you your favorite candy bar!
PS~ According to Noelle it's a boy and we should name it "Rojo Leche" so we can say "Hey Rojo, go and get some leche." We'll see...

CONGRATULATIONS BRAD!!!
In honor of the call, I’ve thrown together a few quick ‘fun facts’ about where Brad will be spending the next two years. Enjoy! I’ve also posted the mission map and photos of Brad opening the call.
Fun Facts:
  • Average Winter Temperature: 19 deg. F
  • Average Summer Temperature: 62 deg. F
  • The Canadian $1 coin is called the Loonie (named after the loon)
  • Superman was created by a Canadian
  • The Beaver is described by the Canadian Encyclopedia as having "had a greater impact on the history and exploration of Canada than any other animal or plant species"
  • Calgary is built on the site of a dried up lake bottom.

If you click on the map, you can see a larger version of it. Once this larger version is up, scroll the mouse over the picture and hold it there for a few seconds. A little box with blue arrows will show up in the bottom right hand corner of the map. If you click on this, it will make the map bigger and more readable. Good luck!

Here it comes... where will it be?

Average cost of a mission: $10,000. Cost of a phone call to Canada: 1 cent per minute. The look on Mom's face: Priceless.

Wait... it get's HOW cold during the winter?!

The proud parents

Finding out about Canada (come on guys, it's Canada, how different from the US can it really be, I mean, they might as well just call it the NUSA - Northern USA)

Does anybody know how many full-time missionaries Grandma has sent out?

Enjoy it Brad, this is closest you'll get to hotties for the next two years

Bryan says, "Congrats Brad... it's not as cool as Peru, but hey, at least it's out of the country, right? I mean, Ben didn't even make it that far."

Who knows, maybe Nellie will be married by the time Brad gets home. (She will be 18...)

Jimmy

This first picture is Carter's reaction upon hearing where his "sick-witted" Uncle Bradley is going to be spending the next two years. Canada, eh?
Carter is about to outgrow this darling little outfit so I thought I would take some pictures in our matching outfits. Well, mine doesn't really match but it's still a Jimmy shirt. Carter wants to be just like his Daddy and Grandad so he listens to Jimmy as his bedtime music. (not really, guys) For those of you who are far away and spend your evenings wondering what new things Carter does in his spare time, I will fill you in. (I know, it's your lucky day!)
~His new favorite toys are our coasters. Seriously, he takes them off the end table and crawls around with them all the time.
~He has a gnarly goose egg on his forehead from a 3 year old trying to pick him up. Needless to say, he was too heavy and he landed on the tile. Poor thing!
~He can sign "please" but ONLY when there is food involved.
~He points at pictures of Daddy and says "Daddy"... but we are lucky to get a "ma" out of him when he's just chatting.
~He stood on his own for 3 seconds yesterday. (I know it doesn't sound impressive but the kid is like a druken sailor when it comes to standing!)
~He has Grammie wrapped so tight around his little finger it's not even funny.

And now to tell you a little about your handsome brother/son. He did his very first filling today. I know, impressive, right? Just wait; it gets better. After lunch, he gave this poor, unsuspecting Mexican woman a ROOT CANAL!!! I am so very proud of him. Although, not proud enough to sit in his chair yet... I am no guinea pig!
Love you all! Jen

Sunbeam singing

Evelyn loves singing! Her new favorite songs are "Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam" and "The Wheels on the Bus"
Enjoy the song!

WHERE WILL HE GO??

Hey everyone! Hopefuly tonight will be the night that Brad will open his mission call! Here is what everyone guessed:

Dad: Indiana & Russia
Mom: New Jersey & Denmark
Grandma: Tennessee & Africa
Bryan: Idaho & Brazil
Jen: Montana & Guatemala
Ben: Southern States & Calgary, Canada

Jon: Italy & Alabama
Nicole: Italy & W. Virginia
Matt: Portugual & Kentucky
Natalie: Mississippi & Greece

Hopefully, with so many guesses at least one of us will be close. However, there are so many more places to choose from. Only time will tell!

hanging around

This is a pilot test for a new feature on our family blog... VIDEO!!! As you can see, I’m still working on the layout part.

This video shows Evelyn doing one of her favorite things, hanging around. If she can hang on something, she does. She uses our counter, our table, her crib, my pull-up bar (featured here) and her favorite place is at the playground where the bars are thinner and she can get a better grip.

In this video you'll se an example of how Evelyn is learning to sign. After I put her on the ground, she starts saying 'gin' 'gin.' If you look at her hands while she says this, she is poking her index finger into the opposite palm. This is the sign for 'again.' She's so smart. She also says a few cute things like Mississippi, I love you, and happy birthday. It’s hard to hear so you’ll have to turn up the volume. Jessica is a little embarrassed at the way she sounds so don’t tease her (well… not too much anyway). Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Dad!!!

Well, Dad, I know this isn't very funny. In fact, it's downright strange. However, we all know that this is a strange family, so I suppose it works.

We all just wanted to wish you a very happy (belated) birthday and let you know how much we love and appreciate everything you do. We appreciate it more than we let on (which isn't very much).

Know that we love you (even that silly song about buying a door in 1984....), and that we are all glad you're our Dad...and that you're a rad lad and not a cad or very bad. Love you!
